7th Surry Old-Time Music Camp

July 6–10, 2026 | Surry Community College | Dobson, NC

Surry Community College is excited to host the 7th Annual Surry Old-Time Music Camp, July 6–10, 2026, on our campus in Dobson, North Carolina. This week-long camp celebrates the rich musical heritage of the Appalachian region and offers musicians of all ages and skill levels the chance to learn, play, and connect through traditional music.

Join us for a week filled with instrument classes, workshops, jam sessions, and community gatherings, led by some of the region’s finest old-time and bluegrass musicians. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to deepen your skills, the Surry Old-Time Music Camp provides a welcoming environment where students ages 8 to 110 can learn, collaborate, and celebrate the traditions of mountain music.

Students may choose a primary instrument and skill level to study for the week:

Beginner through advanced levels of:

• Banjo
• Fiddle
• Guitar

Beginner students will participate in music fundamentals, singing, and dance workshops. Students will also have the opportunity to join in on jam sessions during the week.

Additional sessions will be offered in singing, bass, mandolin, banjo styles, and advanced jam.

We’re thrilled to welcome The Biscuit Eaters back to the Surry Old-Time Music Camp in 2026! Known for their infectious energy and deep love for traditional music, the band has quickly gained national attention—amassing more than 555,000 followers on Facebook and inspiring a new generation of old-time music lovers. Campers will have the special opportunity to learn from band member Meredith Wilkerson.

Cost

The cost for the week is $100 for youth ages 8-17 and $150 for adults 18 and up. Additional children will receive a $25 discount off the ticket price.

Youth scholarships may be available on a sliding scale. If needed, please inquire before you register.

Loaner instruments are available upon request. Please indicate this at the time of registration.

Food & Lunch

We will be providing light snacks daily. Monday through Thursday, students can bring a packed lunch or bring money to purchase something at the Knight's Grill. On Friday, camp students will be provided a pizza lunch before their concert.

Note: Students with certain food allergies and dietary restrictions may need to bring their own food. Please inquire about lunch options if more information is needed.

Emergency Medical and Contact Information

Parents will need to provide emergency medical and contact information for each student under 18 years old. Emergency forms will be emailed or available for completion upon check-in on Monday, July 6th.
